20 A5 cards featuring a photograph on one side and five questions or activity suggestions on the reverse.

The variety of questions and activities means that work can be pitched at an appropriate level for most abilities.

The cards have been designed to develop an enquiring approach to the subject and encourage observational and descriptive skills.

This versatile set lends itself to whole class, small group or individual work, forming the basis for the whole topic or as a starter or plenary activities.

Example questions:
Why is metal a good material to make coins?
The photograph shows a crane with a large magnet being used. Why is a magnet useful here?
What might the problems be if you built a house with wood?
What are the advantages of using glass for car windscreens?

Example activities:
Write a 'plastic' diary for a day in your life. How many different types of plastic did you use? What did you use if for?
Water can exist in three different states - liquid, solid and gas. Research these words and write a definition for each one.
You have two magnets. Plan an experiment to find out which is the strongest. What will you measure? Record your results.
